Period Installations

Period Installations shows how tile can be used to create historic styled installations. The Period Installations shown are from our collection of old tile manufacturer catalogs from the 1910's - 1920's. As you can see, there were some very creative and colorful baths and kitchens. Not every "sanitary" room was tiled with plain, white, "subway" tile. So get creative.

Classic 20's Bath
Historic tile installation (c.1920's)
using 6x6 and 3x6 field tile with custom solid
and patterned tile base, liners and molded trim.

Neo-Grec Style Bath
Floor is 6" peach octagons with 2"x 2" blue dots and border. Wainscot is 6" x 6" Cobalt majolica field with a dark blue 6" base, custom handpainted 3" x 6" tiles with dark blue and maroon liners. The upper wall is 6" x 6" and 3" x 6" Peach Mist majolica tiles with a border of custom handpainted 3" x 6", plain 3" x 3" and cobalt decorative cornice tiles.
Dutch Colonial Bath
The floor is checkerboard -- dark blue and brown porcelain, with borders of brown and dark blue. The base is dark blue 6" x 6" with a custom handpainted 6" x 6" border. The wainscot is 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" custom blue topped with another coordinating custom 3" x 6" border. The upper wall is a custom handpainted lattice patterned 6" x 6" topped with a custom colored Decorative Cornice.

Swiss Chalet Breakfast Room
Wainscot is 6" x 6" tile with 1" contrasting liner above the base of contrasting 6" x 6" tile. The wainscot border is handpainted Decorative Cornice. The upper wall is 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" with a border of 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" tile and feature strips at the ceiling.
Hispano-Moresque Dining Room
Floor is Grey-Brown 6" x6" tiles with 2" x 2" Terra Cotta dots with a border of Terra Cotta and Dark Brown. Wainscot is a basketweave of 4" x 8" Light Yellow tiles with custom 2" x 2" handpainted tiles in black and white, topped by a custom, handpainted border. The back of the cupboard is custom, handpainted checkerboard tiles.
