![]() What's New!
Welcome to DESIGNS IN TILE's What's New! page. Until further notice, please be advised that we will no longer be sending out catalogs featuring our product lines. All information regarding our currently available products and services can be found on our website at www.designsintile.com/specials.htm. We appreciate your interest in Designs In Tile. We have served the restoration and new construction community since 1978. Our popularity and the fact that we refuse to compromise the quality of the work that we produce forces us to adapt some of our business practices. Our production schedule is completely booked until 2008. We are no longer accepting jobs on a wait list. We will not be providing takedowns, custom designs (new commissioned tile art or layout of tile installations) or custom glaze matching until further notice. We are only selling overage from other current and prior jobs at this time. Please call if you have any questions and/or concerns. We, as always, appreciate your continued support. INFORMATION TO HELP YOU PLAN Period Installations shows how our tile can be used to create historic styled installations. The period installations shown are from our collection of old tile manufacturer catalogs from the 1910's - 1920's. As you can see, there were some very creative and colorful baths and kitchens. Not every "sanitary" room was tiled with plain, white, "subway" tile. So get creative and don't be afraid of using color. More traditional (read earlier in period - Victorian and classical architecture) wainscots can be brought to life by using contrasting trim or even majolica ** glazed tile for the field tile. SeeWainscots: Colors & Trim. Three separate pages show different color options and different molded trim options while maintaining a classic and elegant look. (** The term "majolica" tile , in this case, refers to high gloss, translucent glazes over a machine-made (square-edge) white body tile.)Wainscot & Shower Details - shows two elevations of how decorative wainscotting can continue into an ADA accessible shower stall. Changing the focus to floors, please view Cut-tile Geometrics: Octagon & Dot designs. During the Victorian period, cut-tile geometrics (AKA encaustic tiles) set with narrow (1/16") grout joints were often used on floors in foyers, kitchens, sun rooms, porches, commercial buildings. Historically, there were many patterns made up of different sizes and shapes of cut-tile geometrics. We feature the Octagon & Dot pattern because it is the most economical cut-tile geometric floor to produce and by varying the colors of the octagons and dots you may develop many different looks. These three different colorways are only a starting point. Get creative!. Our Arts & Crafts style panel - "A Good Book..." ("A good book and a fire cheery helps to heal the world weary" (© DIT 1999)) has been requested by some of our clients looking forward to the day that the restoration projects are finally over and they will actually have the time to light a fire and read a book. The panel is perfect for a fireplace. It measures 6" x 24" and can be highlighted with any of our 6" x 6" or 6" x 3" decorative tiles. A great tile for this is our hand-crafted faience tile. (For more examples, see our "Arts & Crafts Geometric" page under "Decorative Tile Lines - American Arts & Crafts".)
More California Arts & Crafts Tiles & Panels: Hispano-Moresque style shows tile patterns and colorations found primarily in California and Florida during the 20's and 30's. The bright tropical colors and softer hued pastels are "documentary" variations on a theme and can be incorporated into your home according to your personal taste. The "Turned Crane Panel", in a different colorway, can also be viewed installed in Kitchen Installations: CA Arts & Crafts. We sincerely hope you enjoy these designs. We invite you bookmark our website and return often to see our newest offerings. Remember, we are a custom Art Tile Studio and what you see in the catalog and this website represents about 10% of what we do. We are always happy to discuss your project with you and help design the tile installation of your dreams.
