 Decorative Tile Lines
Welcome to DESIGNS IN TILE's lines of decorative tiles.
We appreciate your interest in Designs In Tile.
We have served the restoration and new construction community since 1978.
Our popularity and the fact that we refuse to compromise the quality of
the work that we produce forces us to adapt some of our business practices.
Our production schedule is completely booked until 2008.
We are no longer accepting jobs on a wait list.
We will not be providing takedowns, custom designs (new commissioned tile art or layout of tile installations) or custom glaze matching until further notice.
We are only selling overage from other current and prior jobs at this time. Specials, Overruns &

Please call if you have any questions and/or concerns.
We, as always, appreciate your continued support.
The Decorative Tile Lines shown on this website encompass a variety of tile decorating techniques and art styles.
The Victorian Transfer Tile lines - Anglo-Japanese, Neo-Grec, and Gothic Revival - are executed in a similar technique developed by English Art Tile Studios during the 1880's and used to the early 20th century. The designs are printed using a lithographic method and fired into the glazed tile. Our proprietary technique creates very durable tiles that differ from low fired "decal" tiles you may find elsewhere. We offer a great deal of flexibility for the final color choices. Although the designs are shown in one colorway, the background colors may be changed. Or for an additional fee, we can custom color the design for your application.
The rest of the Decorative Tile Lines shown are done in a variety of hand-painted/hand-decorated techniques ranging from underglaze, on-glaze majolica, tube-lined, "cuerda seca" and "cuenca". These techniques have been used from the time of the tile architecture of Persia and Turkey; the Moor's forays into Spain; early Dutch, Italian, Portuguese tile and pottery painters; English adaptations of world collected designs; and further dissemination of historic designs to American Art Tile Studios in the teens and 20's who each put their own special "spin" on the patterns.
It's a wonderful history of design. Everyone borrowed from everyone else -- inspiration, designs, techniques, and technology.
After 28 years of business, we hope we can share our enthusiasm for the medium with you. We offer the Decorative Tile Lines (and our consultation) in hope you will more fully understand what tiles are appropriate to which historic styles of architecture. We are constantly challenged by our clients for more designs. Call the Studio to discuss your projects further.
Please note: We also offer many different styles of mosaics and cut-tile geometrics - each developed to suit your needs. They fall outside the realm of hand-painted/hand-decorated techniques, so they are included in separate sections of baths, floors, fireplaces, commercial baths, and murals.
Earlier features on the What's New page have moved into their respective tile lines or joined our growing installation portfolio. We invite you bookmark our website and return often to see our newest designs.
